The eleventh edition of the revamped Tour of Britain will run from Sunday September 7th to 14th 2014, it has been confirmed.
UCI confirmed the dates and the 2.1 third tier category ranking for the race – a disappointment to race organiser SweetSpot Group which was hoping for an upgrade to 2.HC status for 2014, which would have allowed for an increased prize fund, more UCI points and allowing for a greater percentage of the field to be drawn from the UCI Pro Team division.
No explanation has been offered by UCI.
According to the press statement: "SweetSpot have contacted both the UCI and British Cycling to request an explanation for the decision and would like to register their disappointment at the continued lack of communication from the UCI on the matter over the past 24-months.
"Thus far an adequate explanation for the decision or clarification on the criteria for an upgrade to HC status has not been provided."
Meanwhile, the 2014 Pearl Izumi Tour Series dates were revealed at last week’s Cycle Show as starting on Tuesday May 13th and finishing five weeks later on Friday June 13th on Jersey.
