Tesco, Facebook and Nintendo’s Wii U – News from around the web

First up, Tesco is taking a step back from stocking non-food items – including consumer electronics, which is good news for local PC retailers and resellers who are stepping up to fill the space. The grocer said it is scaling back on tech and similar to focus on other more profitable categories like food.

Sticking with supermarkets, Asda this week revealed it would stop stocking Nintendo’s Wii U console. Sales have fallen significantly short of expectations and, in Nintendo’s latest financials, Wii U has sol just 10,000 consoles in Europe.

Also in the world of video games, Song has been winning over independent games studios ever since it revealed its PlayStation 4 back in February when big publishers and smaller indie games studios alike got to share the stage. It’s support for up-and-coming bedroom coders and micro studios has won plaudits all-round.

Next, this week saw the launch of Facebook Mobile Games Publishing, which is a service which looks to offer small to medium-sized developers a head start in getting their mobile games noticed as the market continues to become increasingly crowded.
