Aiming to "double cycling this summer" the multi-org campaign has launched Facebook-friendly 'introduce a friend' website

Summer of Cycling’s +1 pledge website goes live

Bicycle Association CEO Phillip Darnton has cut the digital ribbon, launching the Facebook-friendly version of the Summer of Cycling website. Previously it was a WordPress-based holding site. The Summer of Cycling is a pledge-to-cycle social media campaign organised by the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group and was launched earlier this year. 24 cycle organisations – including Sustrans, British Cycling, CTC, and Cycling Scotland – signed up to promote the campaign. Businesses such as Brompton and Halfords also signed up.

Darnton said:

"The site is fresh and simple – ideal to convey the campaign’s call to action: to introduce a friend, a neighbour or a member of the family to cycling this summer."

Partner organisations will be promoting the Summer of Cycling through web banners and widgets. These social media promotional features are also available to any companies, bike shops, bloggers or other websites who want to use them. They are available for download from the resources section of the Summer of Cycling website.

The site is also seeking users to upload inspirational photographs of cycling in action, with uploaders in with a chance to win an iPad.

The Summer of Cycling also has a Facebook page and a Twitter account. The promotional campaign was seed-funded with £20,000 from the Department for Transport.
