UK sports nutrition brands have begun lobbying against a potential 20 per cent price hike, currently set to come in this October.
Sports nutrition brands, understandably, strongly oppose the move, which would see consumers paying a good chunk more in order to maintain the same fitness regimes. An official Government petition is now circulating with a closing date of May 4th.
Another petition, based around an open letter to Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne MP, is also circulating here. This letter talks up the impact such a hike would have on smaller producers, citing potential job losses, growth and the likelihood that consumers could buy from less reliable sources or overseas suppliers.
BikeBiz would like to hear your thoughts on the proposed hikes and potential sales impact at retail in the comments below.
