For the second year on the trot Shimano Europe is diverting the £7000 it would have spent on corporate Christmas cards to the Shimano Cycling Concept Award. This year's winner was the Scottish Cycling Development Project. Do you know of any non-sporting cycle advocacy schemes that ought to enter?

Shimano seeks best cycle advocacy scheme in Europe

According to Frank Peiffer, Shimano Europe’s marketing director, the winning scheme will be the one that "thinks of a way of promoting the daily use of bicycles and a way of making them more popular."

Entries will only be accepted from non-commercial concerns.

"The idea is not to support cycling clubs for pure sport activities or competition level, or to sponsor some technical developments or patents," said Peiffer.

"We’re looking for specific projects, the award is not meant to support organisations without any concrete plan."

Entries need to be submitted, in English, by 10th January 2002. Submissions can be any length, but excessive documentation may be seen as fuzzy thinking. All entries must be prefaced by a half page summary.

As with the first Shimano Cycling Concept Award, the judges are:

Jack Oortwijn (editor-in-chief, Bike Europe, Netherlands, http://www.bike-eu.com), Carlton Reid (editor/publisher, BicycleBusiness, United Kingdom, http://www.bikebiz.co.uk ) and Michael Bollschweiler (editor, Radmarkt, Germany, http://www.radmarkt.de ) and Frank Peiffer (marketing manager, Shimano Europe, Netherlands, http://www.shimano.com ).

The award winner(s) will be announced on 13th February 2002.

Entries should be sent to:
