Fort William has again bagged an MTB World Cup event. The UCI has announced that the Nevis Range ski area will play host to XC, DH and 4X events, the first time a UK venue has staged a triple World Cup event. The organisers are seeking sponsors. Crowds at the 2002 event were huge.

Scotland favoured by the UCI (first time round this time)

In 2002, Fort William hosted a downhill and 4X World Cup and this year a cross-country round is being added. This 2.5 hour event will take place in the Leanachan Forest that surrounds Nevis Range.

Mike Jardine, from event organisers Rare Management of Edinburgh, said:

"Everyone involved in putting on the event is excited about a bigger and better 2003 World Cup. The introduction of Cross Country will create new levels of interest and bring all of mountain biking together for a great festival in the Highlands. Our immediate challenge is to put in place levels of funding to ensure another event of the highest quality."
