Tyre brand to back this year’s longest skid contest

Schwalbe skids to London Nocturne 2011

Schwalbe is to sponsor the ‘Fixed Gear Longest Skid competition at the IG Markets London Nocturne next month.

The skid contest is now in its third year and sees fixed gear riders perform a back wheel lock along the straight finish of the Nocturne circuit. Skids in excess of 100m have been seen in previous years, with the 2010 winner reaching 130 metres. The winner will get a pair of Durano Skid tyres.

“The Fixed Gear Longest Skid is the ultimate test of a rider’s tyres so we are excited to be involved in the 2011 London Nocturne,” enthused Schwalbe’s Tim Ward. “Our Durano Skid tyre has been specifically designed for Fixed Gear riding and can withstand real ‘abuse’ – braking by locking the rear wheel – for a much longer time. The skid competition will showcase the pressures of Fixed Gear riding that inspired us to create the Durano Skid.”

The free to enter competition takes place in Smithfield Market on Saturday June 11th.
