The Swivel-Head bikes are designed by Mark 'Strida' Sanders and produced by Ming Cycle of Taiwan. The bikes have full-sized wheels, fold in 12 seconds and can be rolled without the need for lugging by the frame or saddle.

Sanders-designed folding bike to launch at Taipei show

The official launch will be to the trade at the Taipei International Cycle Show, 8th-12th March.

The bike uses a 4-bar link, which automatically guides the wheels together during a single fold action. The link bars are integral parts of the frame, and in riding mode are tensioned "giving tremendous rigidity and strength," said Mark Sanders, designer of the Strida bike.

There will be a range of bikes, initially with 26” MTB wheels, and 700c road wheels. The frames accept a wide range of standard components, including; 7 to 27 speed derailleur and hub gear options; and disc and V-brake options. The Swivel-Head technology will be available on licence from Ming Cycle for use on other brands of bicycles.

Mark Sanders and Steedman Bass of Strida Ltd. will be demonstrating both products on booth 460-556, hall 3 at the Taipei International Cycle Show

Ming Cycle produces up to three million bicycles a year for brands such as Mongoose, Carrefour, Decathlon, Jeep and Pacific Cycle. It also makes folding bikes, including the Strida. In 2005 the company made 200,000 folding bikes.
