Reshuffled Norman Baker leaves new MP in the saddle

Robert Goodwill MP is new minister for cycling

Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill has become Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department for Transport, with a remit that includes ‘responsibility for cycling’.

The news follows last week’s reshuffle, which saw Norman Baker lose his cycle brief at the DfT for a more senior cabinet position at the Home Office. Susan Kramer took over Baker’s role, but – as the CTC speculated – the cycle part of the job has instead been passed on to Goodwill.

According to The Scarborough News (via the MP’s own site), Goodwill said: “There are some big challenges ahead, not least HS2, which is vital to meet the growing capacity needs of the country’s railways.

"I am delighted to have cycling too, it’s a big passion of mine as people know.”
