Despite the Government’s £100m budget to "cycle proof" England’s strategic roads network a major conference on roads has no content about cycling. Organised by conference specialist Westminister Briefing the Road Infrastructure Summit will have speakers from the Department for Transport, county councils, Highways England, and even the Office of Rail Regulation, but there are no figures from the world of cycling, or experts who can discuss how 40 road schemes in the UK are supposed to have cycling elements built in to them.
There’s a talk on "how can we prepare and plan for a degree of automated vehicles and other technologies?" but nothing on adapting roads for cyclists, the user group that was around before motoring. (Nor are there any mentions of pedestrians in the conference’s agenda.)
The Road Infrastructure Summit is a free-to-attend event for those in the public sector, and will be held in March.

The blurb for the conference says: "The Road Infrastructure Summit will provide a timely opportunity for transport, planning and construction professionals to discuss and develop a greater understanding of the challenges and opportunities around the Strategic Road Network. The summit will also tackle challenges around our local highways, safety, technology and future investment.
Event organiser Dominic Collyer told BikeBiz: "Based on our research into this particular event, cycling won’t be covered as a ‘main topic’ of the day – however, we will be reaching out to Sustains to see if they are able to send a representative."
He means Sustrans.
