Tony Farrelly of Cycling Plus believes the road bike resurgence is now more obvious than ever.

Road bike market is on the up, says C+ editor

The Cycling Plus ABC is likely to be 9 percent up when the figures are released in December, notching the road/touring title up above the 22 000 mark.

The Future publishing magazine had a stand at Cycle 2002. Bikebiz.co.uk caught Tony Farrelly counting bikes by the roadside before he entered the show:

"I’m sitting here counting commuter bikes," said Farrelly.

"The majority are road bikes. Those commuters would have all been on MTBs five years ago. The market’s definitely going our way."

There were road bikes galore at Cycle 2002, although they didn’t dominate. The star attractions were Cipolini’s Specialized tiger-striped time trial machine and the Specialized road bike he rode to success at this year’s Milan – San Remo World Cup.
