Landlords are not exceedingly popular at the moment, and with news like this there's no wonder

Rent hike squeezes Look Mum No Hands out of Mare Street

Spiralling rents, particularly in London, have been hitting the headlines lately and now it seems a rent hike will force the hand of one of the world’s most famous cycle cafes into shutting one of its popular outlets.

Successful British business Look Mum No Hands cycle cafe will be shutting its Mare Street location (125-127) on Sunday September 13th.

The cafe’s blog explained: "Look mum no hands! at 125-127 Mare Street has been a massive success and frustratingly we have no control over the closure.

"We were invited to be here by The Trampery who are being forced out of the building with a 400% rent hike. We don’t know what the new tenants want to do with the building but they don’t want Look mum no hands! to stay."

The Old Street branch will remain open and the search is now on for the famous cycle cafe to find a new site.

"We’re trying especially hard to retain all of our amazing staff so if anyone knows of any temporary or permanent spaces that might suit us please contact Matthew Harper: matthew@lookmumnohands.com"

The Trampery is a fashion-focused shared workspace and there’s a plan to save the workspace.

Earlier this year Brixton Cycles turned to crowdfunding after being turfed out of its long-term home in Stockwell, with the building being developed into luxury flats.
