Pivot chose Interbike to reveal two of the long awaited additions to its catalogue in the carbon Mach 4 and Pheonix 27.5 downhill bike.
The testers at Pivot went through several iterations, increasing the travel throughout prototyping, before settling on 4" of optimised travel on the Mach 4. The resulting ride is described as ‘snappy’ on the trail, with a slack geometry providing stability at higher speeds, lending itself to all mountain use for those looking for a bike capable of a variety of applications.
Pivot worked with Shimano to accomodate di2 and you’ll notice at the headtube and bottom bracket ports for accomodating the system’s components.
Next up, Pivot’s 2015 Pheonix was initially developed as both a 26 and 27.5 wheel build, but after some time with testers the 26 platform was scrapped in favour of the larger diameter only.
Available specced with both Shimano’s Saint and Zee groupsets, the Pheonix comes in at approximately 35lbs and offers 8-inches travel via a FOX 40 fork. Much like the Mach 4, the Pheonix frame has been tuned to accomodate internal cabling, with a port for routing a dropper post added. The Pheonix uses Dave Weagle’s tried and tested DW Link platform.
