Performance Cycles, the provider of bikes, parts, accessories and services for sportive and triathlon riders, has appointed Alex Willis as performance specialist.
Willis joins the Poulton based store having amassed knowledge and experience in performance cycling. Most recently, he was a physiologist and bike fitter at Retul cycle fit specialist, Bike Science in Bristol.
Willis has also worked in sales with Bike Rooms in Swindon, where he advised customers on high end bikes and cycling apparel, built bikes and carried out maintenance.
Between 2013 and 2014, Willis was a Performance Specialist at The Altitude Centre, the UK’s leading altitude training provider. Working with the largest commercial altitude chamber in the world, he ran exercise and intermittent hypoxic exposure acclimatisation sessions for sports people of all levels.
Alex graduated from the University of Bath with a BSc in sport and exercise science in 2013. Whilst studying, Alex travelled to Canada to work at the country’s private sport science centre, Peak Centre for Human Performance. Here, he carried out physiological testing and designed and implemented training programmes for endurance athletes. He also advised clients on strength, conditioning, flexibility and nutrition.
In his new role, Alex will head up the bike fitting and performance testing centre alongside Andy Kirk, owner of Performance Cycles, as well as offering customers training sessions and seminars, threshold testing, power meter set up and advice on cycling clothing and accessories for optimum performance.
