Alongside Brompton folding bikes, Pashley of Stratford upon Avon is one of the few remaining volume bicycle manufacturers left in Britain. The You and Yours consumer programme on Radio 4 will profile Pashley on Wednesday, asking how and why this niche bike builder is still building bikes in the UK when almost all other suppliers outsourced to Asia and Eastern Europe long ago.

Pashley to get radio plug

The Radio 4 piece will lead on the massive losses of the Tandem Group – owner of Dawes and Falcon – and report on April’s news that the company will cease all of its UK bike assembly work in June.

Pashley – motto: ‘different by design, distinctive by natureÂ’ – will be painted as traditional bicycle manufacturer that stayed true to its roots and which has been able to continue building its 10,000 bikes a year in Britain despite the financial incentives to manufacture abroad.

The You and Yours programme goes out on Wednesday lunchtime.
