Nottingham is tops for cyclists

Cycling schemes in Nottingham have won both National Cycling Awards presented at a campaign conference run by CTC and the Cycle Campaign

Network.

The Transport Initiative at Nottingham City Hospital finished first in the Complementary Initiatives class. Amongst the features of the hospitals integrated approach to cycling is the use of ring fencing of visitor parking charges to fund cycling facilities such as lockers, Sheffield bike parking racks and CCTV.

And cycle campaign group Pedals won the Promotional Activity Category for its Nottingham Cycling Guide.

The awards were presented by the Lord Mayor of Manchester at this weeks Cycle Campaign Conference in Manchester Town Hall.

CTC Campaigns Manager Stuart Reid said:

Nottingham has shown the way and we want other cities to follow the examples that schemes in the city have set.

We particularly liked the ring fencing of car parking fees at Nottingham Hospital to fund cycling facilities. We hope the award will help publicise this innovation. It is an idea others should copy.
