Summer of Cycling and Bike Week both to benefit

Norman Baker dedicates £90,000 to 2012 bike projects

Minister for Transport Norman Baker has apparently confirmed £90,000 of funding for two key cycling projects – Summer of Cycling – and the nationwide Bike Week.

The cash will be split, with £20,000 going to Summer of Cycling, the remainder to Bike Week.

That’s according to Julian Huppert MP’s Twitter feed this afternoon. Huppert is the MP for Cambridge, co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group and key figure behind the unprecedented recent Parliamentary debate on cycling.

Huppert said on Twitter: "Excellent cycling news: I’ve been pressing Norman Baker to fund National Bike Week & @summerofcycling. He just told me he’s giving £90k.

"‏National Bike Week will get £70k, & @summerofcycling will get £20k. This will be very helpful to make sure both projects really deliver."

Tomorrow will see a Parliamentary reception marking the launch of the Summer of Cycling.
