New Forest announces Cyclists Approved accreditation scheme

As part of its commitment to making the New Forest’s 193,000 acres as car-free as possible the destination is launching its New Forest Walkers and Cyclists Approved accreditation scheme in partnership with the New Forest National Park Authority.

Nearly 70 hotels, guest houses, B&B’s and self-catering cottageshave signed up to the welcome scheme to assure walkers and cyclists they’ll receive all the help and assistance they need to enjoy the perfect New Forest break.

For cyclists this scheme ensures hotels and holiday accommodation provide a lockable, undercover area for safe overnight storage of bicycles and panniers, facilities for washing down bikes and outdoor clothing, and an emergency cycle and puncture repair kit, as well as a number of other services

The scheme was launched yesterday (Wednesday May 25) with a circular guided walk for accommodation providers from Balmer Lawn through woodland near Brockenhurst. Brockenhurst station is just 89 minutes from London Waterloo and the New Forest, which receives more than 10 million visitor days each year, is just 2 minutes from the end of the M27 motorway.

Designated a National Park in 2005, The New Forest is also Britain’s biggest site of Special Scientific Interest, as well as being home to 19 Conservation Areas and 622 scheduled ancient monuments. Promoting responsible walking and cycling helps ease the pressure on this delicate ecology and magical environment.
