Cycle-related press officers and PR consultants have told BikeBiz.co.uk there has been a heightened interest in cycling from heavyweight national newspapers recently.

National newspapers get the hots for cycling

Major articles are expected soon in the lifestyle, travel and fitness sections of The Mirror, The Express, The Times and the-usually-pro-cycling-anyway Independent.

One senior press officer said: "The nationals have all suddenly developed a real interest in leisure cycling. I’m expecting some positive pieces in the next few weeks and months. And where the nationals lead, the regionals follow. And TV and radio often take their lead from newspapers too. It looks like a summer of good PR for cycling."

A cycle company’s PR consultant said: "Something else could suddenly take their attention away from cycling but, for now, the interest from national newspaper is real and in-depth."
