Special issue celebrates a quarter of a century

MBUK’s 25th anniversary edition goes on sale today

Mountain Biking UK’s 25th anniversary edition goes on sale today, with a special collector’s package including the 225-page mag itself, a 68-page guide to the 100 best bits of bike bling ever and a special anniversary cover.

MBUK has also teamed up with Chain Reaction Cycles to build a dream bike worth over £4,200 – based largely on input from readers – which will be given away in the issue.

The anniversary issue takes a deserved look back over the past quarter of a century, from the launch in 1988 by Tym Manley and Chris Turner, to the sport’s glory days in the ’90s to MBUK milestones like the launch of the Bike Show Live, Team MBUK and MBUK.com, later incorporated in BikeRadar.com. More recently – in June last year – MBUK ran an augmented reality issue, where the issue came to life when readers held their phones or tablets over selected content.

The past 25 years have also seen MBUK got up to some unusual antics like riding a bike out of the back of a plane at 6,000ft and jumping through a ring of fire in an MBUK skinsuit. More stunts are promised for the future- including heli-drops, safaris and ice-bed adventures in Alaska.

MBUK is launching the first volume of an HD Superbikes special to coincide with the anniversary and has ambitions for a digital global version of MBUK, plus phone-friendly practical advice apps in the works.
