Masi Bicycles USA disputes Casa Masferrer's claim that Masi would infringe on the Spanish company's Massi brand

Masi v Massi

On April 13th Masi Bicycles USA revealed it would be bringing its brand into the UK via Monterey Industries of Bristol. The following day Case Masferrer of Spain told BikeBiz.com it had sent a cease-and-desist letter to Monterey Industries.

Masi brand manager, Tim ‘Masiguy’ Jackson said:

“We’re confident in our rights, stemming from the Masi brand’s longstanding legacy going back more than 50 years."

Masi Bicycles USA has retained counsel – Masi-counsel? – in the UK to assert its rights to the Masi name and plans to continue to pursue its distribution partnership with Monterey Industries in the UK.

Pete Garski, VP of sales for Masi, said:

“We’re going to assert our rights and support Monterey Industries, who we’re still very proud to be partnering with to bring Masi to the UK market."

Masi was originally an Italian brand and has been around for 50+ years. It’s now owned by Haro and is a cult US brand. It’s distributed around the world: except for Europe.
