Starting with an interview with Keith Noronha of tube-maker Reynolds and ending with a 16-page feature on Geordie frame maker Dave Yates, ‘Made In England’ is an impressive book in many ways. Sub-titled "the artisans behind the hand-built bicycle", the book takes you inside the world of bespoke bicycle frame builders by showcasing the art, skills and methods of England’s finest bicycle builders.
Showcasing 13 frame builders, with long interviews and luscious photography, the hardcover book – 270mm x 270mm – is 218-pages long and written by frame builders Matthew Sowter and Ricky Feather. They conceived the book to share and extend their passion for frame building, hoping it will inspire more people to follow their foot-steps in the hand-crafted industry.
"We hope that ‘Made In England’ will further encourage the resurgence in hand-made bicycles and create more awareness by shining some limelight into the grubby faces of frame builders and to drag them out of the shadows where they usually skulk, filing away," said Sowter.
Sowter makes bikes at Saffron frameworks and Feather makes for Feather Cycles. The photography was by Feather’s wife, fashion photographer Kayti Peschke.
Aside from Dave Yates the other frame builders featured are Jon Aston of Chickens; Tom Warmerdam of Demon; Tony Donhou; Ricky Feather; Lee Cooper; Robin Mather; Chas Roberts; Ron Cooper; Jason Rourke; Ted James; and Woodrup Cycle’s Steve Woodrup and Kevin Sayles
