There’s a buzz about Leicester at the moment, a city keenly building its cycling credentials that happens to have an underdog Premiership team teetering on the brink of winning the league.
The region is getting behind Leicester City – a football club that roundly backs cycling – tomorrow with a Backing the Blues day and one of its big stars – Shinji Okazaki, striker for the Foxes and the Japanese national team – paid a visit to IBD Future Cycles earlier this week.
The local bike shop-supporting Okazaki bought a bike lock from Future Cycles, where he was served by mechanic-in-chief Mark Gannon and was closely followed by a two camera Japanese film crew and reporter.
Fellow director of Future Cycles Tim Hudson said: "It is great to see Shinji in Future Cycles to buy bike kit. We’re a small independent shop and welcome the support of independent-minded, footballing superstar from a cycling-friendly football club putting Leicester on the world map.
"It’s ‘Backing the Blues’ Day tomorrow and were promoting the Critical Mass ‘Ranieri Ride’ tomorrow night. The whole city is buzzing with confidence thanks to Richard III, The Foxes and is getting on it’s feet and bikes to celebrate."
Leicester City has recently confirmed its commitment to cycling in Leicester, supporting the Schools Ride & next month’s Cycle City Active City Conference on May 19/20th, as well as their support for Ride Leicester Festival (Sky Ride & Castle Classic) in August.
The city bidded for electric bike hubs in 2015. Meanwhile BikeBiz visited Leicester IBD Future Cycles last year.
