Villa rental service looks to attract two-wheeled custom

James Villas targets cycle tourists with Nicole Cooke planned routes

Villa holiday specialists James Villas has linked with Olympian Nicole Cooke to devise a series of cycling routes at key holiday locations.

The holiday provider has commissioned research, which it says shows that of those who are looking to take cycling trips – 49% would do so to get a unique perspective, and 39% see it as a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Cooke said: "As an Olympic Gold Medallist, I am fanatical about cycling. My passion for the sport was inspired by my fond childhood memories of cycling on holiday. Some of my favourites include exploring the Devon countryside on a tandem with everything packed into the saddlebags, and the many holidays in the French Alps geared around doing as much riding as possible over the highest roads of Europe. Whether it is training for a race or just pootling around taking in the scenery on holiday, cycling plays a big part in my day-to-day life."

Among other locations, James Villas has now detailed a series of routes, ranging family friendly to advanced, for Cyprus, Lanzarote, Portugal’s Algarve and the island of Menorca.

Hotel chain Future Inns also revealed it is now allowing guests to store bikes in their rooms, even offering a protective mat for the floor.

Meanwhile, a Kent-based BikeAbility boss has this week opened a cycle friendly pub, dubbed the Freewheel, that offers a workshop and, soon, bike hire too.
