Paligap's marketing head honcho gives us a run down of his role, the products retailers should be looking out for and his stable of bikes

In the saddle: Paligap’s Angus Staines

BikeBiz: What bikes do you own and where do you like to ride ’em?
Angus Staines: I ride the new Marin Mount Vision XM8 with Ritchey Trail bars and stem. You could probably have a bike for every occasion, but my wife and son also ride, so there’s only so many you can fit in the garage. My local ride is the Marin Trails at Ashton court and Leigh woods, as well as the Forest of Dean.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about riding?
Spending time with the family. I get out once a week on my own, or with friends, but always try to get out on the weekend with my wife and ten year old son Tomas.

Tell us about your day-to-day role at Paligap:
I look after marketing, athletes and events for the brands. This can be anything from arranging support for the UK Gravity Enduro series with Marin Bikes to a community based event with Portland Design Works or checking venues for our 2015 bike launch. It’s a varied role and each day can bring something completely different, which is why I enjoy it so much.

What Paligap products should we keep an eye out for?
We have new products coming from nearly all of our brands, but I’d say it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for our new Italian clothing brand Ale, new models from Marin and MEKK and our new urban transport range from Tern.
We have campaigns running over the year. Our Marin Demo programme is in full swing and we’ll attend the NEC, as well as the Enduro World series with Ritchey and Marin. With CNP nutrition it’s going to be a busy now Team Sky and Tracy Moseley use them. We’re also working on our 2015 bike launch, which will take place in July at three UK venues.

Any promotions running at present that dealers should be aware of?
Our sales team always have a range of promotions running, but the few that stand out at the moment are the Marin Cyclescheme program, the new Stan’s No Tubes promo and also the Powertap dealer package. The Powertap package will include a bespoke POS stand with LCD screen, worth £650, that the dealer will receive FOC. We also have seasonal buy in deals that will be included in the new look Paligap Directory.

Are there any available territories for any bike lines?
We are always looking for dealers that can do our brands justice. We have ten staff looking after sales across all the UK and Ireland. Any interested retailers can call our sales team.
