14,000 expected to gather in Smithfield tomorrow for series of races

IG London Nocturne begins tomorrow

The annual IG London Nocturne kicks off tomorrow at round 4.30 in Smithfield and crowds of up to 14,000 are expected to turn out.

Playing hosts to the Tern Folding Bike Race, a women’s and elite mens criterium, Penny Farthing race and fixed gear longest skid, among other events, the 2012 instalment promises to be one to remember.

Cyclemotion’s Mark Bickerton is one man eagerly anticipating the events, particularly the folding bike race. He told BikeBiz: "Tern will be sponsoring the IG London Nocturne Folding Bike Race on Saturday 9 June, and have put together a team of racers who will be battling it out to win first place and a Tern Verge Duo bike. When the horn sounds, riders sprint to their bikes, unfold them as quickly as possible, and then set off, all dressed in their best interpretation of suited and booted commuters on the way to work."

The 2012 event will be televised on Channel 4 at 07:00 on Saturday 16th June and will also be available to view online on 4OD.
