Local media organisations will be on the look-out for positive stories to write on the FMD crisis. Here's one. Get involved with the BCF's Challenge series for the under 13s. This is now sponsored by Raleigh and is a chance to activate a new generation of kids on bikes

IBDs: get more kids on bikes

The BCF are now starting to actively promote the Raleigh Challenge 2001.

This could be the first taste of competitive cycling for many riders under the age of 13, and bike shops could do their bit by advertising the events, helping their local development officers and generating some positive PR for themselves and cycling.

Throughout April and May there will be Raleigh Challenge Heats all over the UK. The events consist of a skills test (slalom round cones and so on) and a short time trial. For the

heat winners, there will be a final in each region. Final winners will each be presented with a Raleigh bike. There are also prizes for runners up and certificates for all who take part.

There are three age categories:

school year 2 and under; years 3,4,5; years 6,7,8

Kids dont have to be a member of a cycling club.
