Hughes founded the UK branch of the Swiss-owned brand in 1994. He takes voluntary redundancy.

Ian Hughes leaves Scott UK

A statement from Scott Sports Group SA said Hughes’ departure was due to the "tough economic climate in the UK" and "centralisation of duties" within the group.

The UK branch will continue to operate a sales and marketing and service activity from its Cramlington HQ.

Hughes was formerly a rep for ATB Sales, selling Marin bikes. Previously he had worked as a radio presenter. He started working for what was then Scott USA (not US owned at the time) in 1994, locating in Cramlington, Northumberland.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges over the past 14 years, and seen the Scott brand develop strongly in a very competitive UK market. I have some time now to take a break, and then look forward to meeting new challenges for the future."

Beat Zaugg, CEO of Scott Sports Group, said: “The global market is always changing and the economic pressures mean we have to react to these situations. We have made plans to centralise many parts of our operations in Scott Sports Group and we are sorry to see Ian go. I can assure all of our customers a first class service with innovative products for the future.”
