Leisure Expo Ltd runs both the spring NEC show and the autumn roadshow. Leisure Expo’s MD David Hyde is still hoping that a deal can be reached between his company and the Bicycle Association so that "a sensible exhibition calendar can be agreed on next year."
"We are offering a profit sharing arrangement that will ensure a regular income to the association and provide strong workable industry shows," Hyde told BikeBiz.co.uk.
Hyde, an organiser of bike trade shows for the last 15 years, has offered this olive branch before.
“It will be very disappointing if this opportunity is missed. Everybody I talk to agrees that we’ve got to sort out the mish-mash that currently exists. If we can all get round a table and put aside any differences we may have, we can easily find a solution.”
Hyde also offered to allocate some of the profits of his roadshow to the BA, but got no answer.
The September roadshow is designed to fit in either side of Cycle 2002 at Islington’s Business Design Centre, and is a return to the travelling format that existed a few years ago, one championed at the time by Madison and other key exhibitors. Madison is one of the exhibitors at the Cycle & Leisure Roadshow, a major fillip.
Exhibitors will be able to build up the show on the morning of arriving at each venue with Leisure Expo arranging movement of product and equipment directly from Cycle 2002, if required. Transportation between the two venues is also being laid on.
The roadshows are in Sandown (23rd-24th September) and Harrogate (30th September-1st October). Cycle 2002 runs 26th-29th September.
The time format is for noon to 9pm on the first day of the show, and 10am to 4pm on the second day.
The venues are Sandown Exhibition Centre for London, and the Yorkshire Exhibition Centre in Harrogate for the north of England and Scotland.
The exhibitors confirmed so far are: Amba, Bike-Register, Cybertill, Giant, Gill, Kona (Paligap), Madison, Raw Experience, Ruption, Saracen, Wilkinson, WD-40 and Zebra.
