Huge nationwide Big Pedal competition closes today

The Sustrans-run, bicycle industry levy Bike Hub-funded Big Pedal competition closes today.

While the final miles are being pedalled by children, teachers and parents as part of the nationwide competition, the total so far stands at a whopping 830,043 journeys logged by the nation’s schools.

Mark Cavendish is one of the project’s many backers.

1,198 schools have registered to take part in the competition – with a combined school roll of 294,999 pupils.

According to Sustrans stats, on average 49,126 journeys are being clocked each day, with 19 per cent of pupils taking part.

Official final figures, once they’ve all been counted up, are expected to be available soon. In the meantime, why not take a look at the video explaining the competition, below:
