Bangladesh's earnings from bicycle exports are set to top $80m in fiscal 2003-2004, reports India's The Financial Express today, a rise of $30m on previous period.

Government-subsidised Bangladeshi bike makers report increased exports

According to a report in The Financial Express, bicycle exports earned Bangladesh $52m dollars in the last fiscal year, and the earning target was raised to $80 million dollars for this fiscal year.

The latest official figures showed that the country exported bicycles worth $12.69m dollars in the July-September period of this fiscal year, compared with $11.56m in the corresponding period of fiscal 2002-2003.

Bangladeshi bicycle manufacturers have received what the Financial Express calls a "10 percent cash incentive" from the government since May 2002.
