A group of 12 Taiwanese businessmen and officials begin a cycling tour of the Netherlands today, led by King Liu, the president of Taiwan’s Giant bicycle company, reports FocusTaiwan.
In May, Liu completed a 20-day, 1,668-kilometre cycling tour through China. He rides a Giant Defy Advanced Limited.
“Many people travel in cars, with high speeds and closed windows,” said Liu after completing the trip. “But on bikes, people greet each other, building human relationships and gradually shape a more peaceful society.”
To see how the Netherlands puts such ideas into practice, King Liu will be leading the six-day ‘Green World on Wheels’ on 500-kilometre route checking out the cycling infrastructure of the Netherlands.
Fifty other Taiwanese expatriates in the Netherlands will be joining the cycling tour.
Frank R.H. Liu, Taiwan’s representative to the Netherlands, said:
"Riding Giant bicycles is the best way to promote Taiwan-made products."
King Liu is Taiwan’s most prominent cycle campaigner. In January he was named a senior adviser to Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, one of just 13 presidential advisers.
