Danny Walter promoted to new broader role; Steve Williams joins as What Mountain Bike acting editor

Future appoints editor-in-chief for its mountain bike portfolio

Danny Walter has been promoted to the role of editor-in-chief for Future Publishing’s mountain biking portfolio.

Walter has 14 years experience as a journalist and has worked at Future as Mountain Biking UK editor for five years.

In his new role, Danny will remain hands-on as editor for Mountain Biking UK, but will also have additional responsibility for overseeing sister magazine, What Mountain Bike, and driving the portfolio’s digital growth in 2012.

Future’s mountain biking portfolio has been further bolstered with the appointment of Steve Williams, a keen mountain biker and former managing editor of the Games Hub at Future. Williams joins the portfolio as acting editor of What Mountain Bike and will work with Walter to develop the title and build on the success of departing editor Matt Skinner.

Mountain Biking portfolio publisher Dave Clutterbuck said: "We’ve got ambitious plans for mountain biking and Danny will help drive the growth of our brands both in the UK and globally. As the market leader in the UK, we are perfectly positioned to move into new digital areas and replicate our success in new markets. Danny’s editorial craftsmanship and commercial vision will serve these expansion plans very well.”

Editorial director Jim Douglas added: "MBUK has never looked better and this move means the rest of our mountain bike portfolio can now benefit from Danny’s expertise."

Last year, Walter and his team worked on the redesign of MBUK, informed by a comprehensive independent research study. Future said his new role as editor-in-chief will enable him to build on this success and drive forward a reinvigorated magazine, which first launched in 1988.
