The home built for Lance Armstrong in 1995 has just gone on the market in Austin, Texas. The 4,950 square-foot house on Lake Austin is being offered for $3.5m, and the sale is being handled by a friend of Armstrong who dropped out of college in 1997 to assist him during his cancer treatments.
Armstrong, about to win his seventh Tour de France, was a member of Team Motorola when the house was built in 1995. The home features a pool and a hot tub on the lake, as well as a two-slip boat dock.
"Lance insisted planting the incredible 26 palm trees that line the property and still tower over the estate today," says Cord Shiflet, the realtor handling the sale and an old friend of Armstrong.
The current owner is only the second since Armstrong built the house, and except for a few minor changes the house is exactly the way it was when Armstrong and his mother, Linda, picked out the finishes.
After two years of design and construction, Armstrong moved into the house in 1995 and lived there until 2000.
Shiflet said: "This is the home where Lance lived when he went through his cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery, where he met his wife and where he lived when he won his first two Tour de France races. This is a very rare opportunity for someone to own a part of history and enjoy owning the same beautiful home that belonged to one of the greatest athletes alive."
