Finnish component manufacturer Herrmans will be expanding its bicycle component factory, increasing production capabilities by around 50 per cent.
The firm, a significant OEM supplier, will expand a total of 1800m2, of which 1400m2 will be factory and 400m2 will extend the high ceiling warehouse.
The buildings will be completed by the end of 2016 and the machine fleet expanded gradually. Within five years, when all production lines have been extended, the capacity will increase around 50 per cent and around 25 new staffers will be recruited.
"By dedicated work we have achieved significant sales growth, making us reach the limits of our current capacity," said Tom Nordström, Herrmans CEO. "The reason for the expansion is our five-year plan where we see further growth in all our bike component segments, but especially with the front and rear lights products."
Herrmans said it was looking at new segments, not least in e-bikes, and the North America and Asia territories for expansion. The grip, reflector and rim tape manufacturer said it was increasing market share in bike lights and chain guards and "provides components to the majority of bicycle factories in Europe".
Proximity to European factories is key to Herrmans success, the company said, allowing for swift deliveries and flexibility: "We better understand the needs of our European clients, while the European type approvals of the products give customers peace-of-mind.
