It's not often wins are attributed to saddle-use but representatives from Selle Royal's Fi’zi:k brand are cheering the road and MTB XC and DH victories of Simoni, Sasuer and Gracia who trounced their respective oppositions on yet-to-be-released saddles using Fi’zi:k’s new 'Wing Flex' comfort-and-performance features.

Fi’zi:k-riding pros score back-to-back victories

Last Sunday, Siemen’s Cannonale’s Cedric Gracia took gold at Fort William in the first of a five-race World Cup Downhill Series. On the same day Gilberto Simoni was confirmed as winner of the Giro d’Italia. The previous weekend Christophe Sauser won the cross-country event at St. Wendel, Germany.

All three riders used final-prototype Fi’zi:k saddles using ‘Wing Flex’ technology.

"Never in the history of the Fi’zi:k has it seen as many significant wins in as short a time period," said Suzette Ayotte, Fi’zi:k’s US press officer.

"New Wing Flex technology is living up to its objective: to improve performance."

Wing Flex was developed in-house at Selle Royal and put to the test at the bioengineering centre at Milan Polytechnic university. Sensors recorded saddle pressure distribution.

The new road saddle is called the Arione, the offroad saddle is the Gobi. The Arione is slightly longer than the usual 27cm.

The Gobi is said to be the result of over a year’s worth of testing and interactive research with professional racers and enthusiasts. It will arrive on the market in October.

Both the introductory models, with carbon reinforced shells and titanium rails, will weigh about 230 grams each and will cost £70+.

The Arione saddle was plugged by Phil Liggett on OLN’s coverage of the Giro d’Italia.

Selle Royal of Italy owns the Fi’zi:k, LookIn and Brooks saddle brands.
