Mark Cantwell, former Publisher of BikeRadar and Cyclingnews, is joining road.cc as the Bath-based website looks to further boost its rapid growth in audience and revenues.
Cantwell will be stepping back in to the bike world having spent the last year as head of content commercialisation for Trinity Mirror where he built up their Money Saving and affiliate business. His new role will see him re-united with Tony Farrelly who was editor of a then fledgling BikeRadar with Cantwell as advertising manager.
Cantwell said: “I love road.cc and I think they have built an amazing community that strikes the right balance between helping their readers and driving response for their advertisers so when the opportunity came to help them expand the business into new areas I couldn’t refuse.
“I have worked with Tony before and have always found him to be a great guy that really believes passionately in what he is doing and I think that the team at road.cc have the opportunity and the drive to do in the sports market what great companies like Eurogamer have done in the games market.
“Web content should be about passionate enthusiasts and communities not corporate behemoths and the guys at road.cc embody that spirit.
“I can’t wait to be part of their expansion and we already have a few site ideas and partnerships lined up. We aim to work closer with retailers, brands and distributors here in the UK and globally to help them better engage with our audience and sell more bikes and accessories without selling out our loyalty to our users.”
road.cc editor Farrelly added: “Anyone who knows Mark, knows the drive, enthusiasm and imagination he brings to everything he does. Our philosophy has always been to go out and find the best people to be on the team it’s why we’re so strong both editorially and commercially and Mark is certainly one of the best so we are well pleased to welcome him aboard.”
