The London Cycling Campaign has revealed Evans Cycles as a supporter of its Space for Cycling 2014 local election campaign.
Space for Cycling aims to convince candidates in the May 2014 local council elections of the importance of redesigning our streets so they’re safe and inviting for everyone to cycle.
The campaign was created in the summer in response to several high-profile deaths in central London. The campaign helped win specific promises from the Mayor to make junctions safer and the next stage is to call on election candidates to support cycle-friendly measures in every neighbourhood across Greater London:
- Protected lanes on main roads and at major junctions
- 20mph speed limits
- Removing through motor traffic from residential streets
- Safe cycling routes to schools and colleges
- Cycle-friendly town centres
- Cycling routes through parks and along canals
LCC chief executive Ashok Sinha said: "We’re delighted to welcome Evans Cycles, London’s largest cycling retailer, as a supporter of Space for Cycling, which promises to be our biggest campaign ever.
"This partnership is born of our shared desire to remove the barriers to cycling on every street in Greater London, to ensure cycling is safe and inviting for children, parents and novices, as well as experienced cyclists."
Evans Cycles marketing director Ben Hart added: "We’re thrilled to be supporting a charity like the London Cycling Campaign in their efforts to make cycling a safe, convenient choice for every Londoner.
"We look forward working with LCC to convince local councillors and council candidates of the importance of designing streets that are welcoming to cyclists of every ability, from children cycling to school to speedy commuters."
