29ers will be in focus at Demo Day on August 31st

Eurobike eyes 29″ trend

The organising body behind Eurobike has reported that the show will examine the 29" wheel market in some detail, speculating whether the American trend will become more than a niche market for Europe.

At Eurobike’s Demo Day (taking place on Tuesday August 31st) there will be chance for manufacturers, retailers and journalists to take a close look at 29ers.

Eurobike project manager Stefan Reisinger said of the Demo Day Argenbuhl site: “This location offers the ideal conditions for testing mountain bikes and visitors have the advantage of being able to test ride the bikes back-to-back for direct comparison.”

Doris Klytta, PR manager at Schwalbe tyre manufacturer Ralf Bohle GmbH said: “In the US, 29ers have long been popular due to their tracking capability and rolling resistance.

"Our American retailers are expecting us to offer corresponding models.”

Siegfried Neuberger, president of the Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (Two-Wheeler Industry Association) added: "Whether Europe will also switch to these so-called big-wheelers remains to be seen."

Eurobike takes place at the start of September.
