A new, Sheffield-based manufacturer of high-end full suspension mountain bikes will launch its first bike at Cycle 2002 later this month.

Edge Bikes to go public

The Blade from Edge Bikes is a duel/BSX frame. DH, freeride and XC frames are in the pipeline.

The frames feature a four-Bar linkage to create a stationary virtual pivot point on the pedal axle of the bike. This allows a constant chainlength throughout the entire range of suspension travel, improving the pedalling efficiency of the bike, said Adrian Smith, one half of Edge Innovation Ltd.

The other half is Andrew Kempton. Both are originally from Shrewsbury but went to the two Sheffield universities. They graduated with engineering degrees.

Edge Innovations Ltd. has been part-funded by government and EC grants.

Whilst the Edge frame has been in the development phase, the company has been co-sponsoring an elite downhill racing team, the Edge-Enspire Racing team from Sheffield.

Edge is seeking a nationwide network of “prestige” IBDs. Retail price for the 7000 aluminium EastonRAD tubeset frame – handbuilt in England – is £949. This includes the Fox VanillaR rear shock.

The Edge Bikes Blade is available with a custom paint job and custom geometry.
