Coloured wingbars sold since July 2009 affected

DMR Bikes issues Alloy wingbar voluntary recall

Upgrade Bikes subsidiary DMR Bikes has issued a voluntary recall of the DMR coloured alloy wingbar sold since June 2009.

Affecting 480 units, consumers are advised to cease using the handlebars at once, remove them from their bikes and return them to the supplier – or to DMR Bikes directly – to arrange for a free replacement.

The Taiwan manufactured handlebar can crack or break, posing a possible fall hazard to users. It affects the latest batch of the 25.4mm anodized alloy wingbar – but only those sold since June 2009. Affecting DMR Alloy Wingbars sold as individual aftermarket units, the handlebars are finished in shiny bright anodized colours; black, blue, grey, green, purple or red. They have the DMR Bikes logo laser etched on the left hand side and Wingbar logo laser etched on the right hand side when looking at the front of the bar.

This recall does not affect the following bars:
• DMR Alloy Wingbar – 31.8mm with ‘classic graphics’
• DMR Alloy Wingbar with ‘classic graphics’
• DMR Cro-Mo Wingbar with a brace
• DMR Heat treated Cro-Mo Wingbar
• Any DMR bar fitted to a DMR complete bike

The firm said: “We have determined that there is a potential for the handlebar to fail due to a possible fault in the manufacturing process. This is not a design fault, but a problem with the manufacturing and it is impossible to judge which handlebars are affected until they break. We are very sorry for any inconveniences that this may cause.”

Replacement parts are set to arrive in the UK within the next few weeks, with limited numbers available at first due to manufacturing and delivery time restraints. Alternatives are immediately available however, and replacement parts will be made available as soon as possible.

If you think you are affected please call 01403 711 611 from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively the firm can be emailed at info@dmrbikes.com.
