ACT survey reveals three per cent rise in core sales

December sees cycle retailer sales slow

The spectacular sales rise seen last November wasn’t maintained in December, according to the latest ACT/ActSmart report on cycle retail sales.

December sales rose three per cent compared like-for-like with December 2008, with snow judged to have dampened sales and customer footfall.

The ACT said: "November’s performance was achieved irrespective of record rainfall, whilst December’s widespread snowfall appears to have done more damage, but there are indications that for the cycle trade at least, the Xmas shopping peak was brought forward last year.

"Overall sales volume fluctuations between October and December 2009 were negligible compared to the swings seen in previous years and 2008 in particular."
