Dahon has teamed up with the ‘Hive’ student residence project, offering occupants of the firm’s apartments D7 Dahon folders to address transport needs.
Hive ordered 425 bikes for its first two state-of-the-art student residences, which are scheduled to open in central London in September 2009.
“Our buildings are best practice examples of environmental developments,” said Nicky Fowler, sales and marketing director for Hive. “They have a 68 per cent carbon reduction achieved through general building upgrades, LED lighting, a bio-mass boiler that heats the building by burning recycled wood chips and grass roofs to reduce carbon emissions. Providing bicycles for students is consistent with our environmentally friendly buildings.”
“Dahon’s partnership with Hive represents part of our effort to encourage the use of bicycles as an ecologically conscious means of urban transport,” added Joshua Hon, vice president of Dahon.
“The easy access location of the Hive student residences makes getting around by bike quick and convenient. The beauty of folding bikes is that they can also be used in conjunction with busses, subways or trains to basically travel anywhere you need to go without having to worry about the hassles of finding parking, congestion charges, parking fees and filling up gas.”
