Accredited training to be offered for cycle mechanics and electric bike technicians

Cytech teams up with BEBA for e-bike training

BikeBiz can reveal that the British Electric Bicycle Association (BEBA) has teamed up with Cytech to provide accredited electric bike maintenance training in the UK.

The move follows the growing popularity of the e-bike sector, and the potential the market offers bike dealers.

Over the coming months BEBA will work closely with Cytech to integrate electric bikes into the established Cytech technical training programme to develop a specific e-bike module – available as part of Cytech Three or as a standalone course.

The training will be available to BEBA members, cycle shop employees and members of the public through authorised Cytech Training Providers.

“One of BEBA’s roles is to create industry standards and service levels," explained BEBA chairman David Miall.

"Teaming up with Cytech, the bicycle industry’s only accredited training scheme, was the obvious solution to develop and deliver specialist accredited training for electric bicycles.”

The ACT said it recognised the huge potential the electric bike market offered specialist cycle retailers, stating that retailer education and training was the first step in realising that potential of sales and servicing of e-bikes. The association added that the move signifies Cytech taking the leading intiative in partnership with BEBA to ensure the retail sector benefits from the significant commercial opportunity.

The rise in electric bikes is expected to broaden the appeal and accessibility of cycling. E-bike owners are reported to clock up more miles than conventional cycle owners. The rise in the genre has also led to a broadening of the types of electric bikes on the market, increasing the need for training in the sector.
