‘Bikeability’ is the cycling proficiency test for the 21st century. It's a three badge award scheme designed to give children the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads. It was due to be launched today by the DfT's Derek Twigg but he's been shuffled thanks to yesterday's Government resignations so the official launch may be postponed.

Cycling proficiency test gets three-badge make-over

Bikeability will be initially trialled with 3000 children across England with a national rollout of the scheme from Spring 2007. The Bikeability award consists of a luminous metal badge, booklet, certificate and a letter to parents.
