Cyclescheme has pledged its support to the industry initiative Investors in Cycling, the Bicycle Association’s (BA) programme promoting the growth of cycling through advocacy.
The partnership will strengthen the BA’s portfolio of advocacy projects delivered on behalf of the UK cycling industry, including its Growing the Local Bicycle Economy project. Already mobilised in London, this project brings local industry and advocacy partners together to make the economic case for cycling and secure infrastructure and wider investment, and the BA aims to roll this project out to new regions in 2022 with support from Investors in Cycling.
Cycle to work provider Cyclescheme, part of Blackhawk Network, saves employees 26-40% on a bike and accessories. Employees can purchase a bike or accessories via payments taken tax efficiently via salary sacrifice.
Neil McGuigan, Cyclescheme senior manager, said: “As the leading Cycle to Work provider, our Cyclescheme solution works with over 2,000 UK bike stores, brands, and distributors in our commitment in getting more people cycling.
“It is exciting to be collaborating with the Bicycle Association, closely aligning with our own goals of growing the local bike economy and championing the benefits of e-bikes.
“The pandemic has seen a dramatic uptake in cycling, creating a high demand for bikes and a spike in cyclists across the country. We are keen to support the continuing advocacy work of the Bicycle Association to maintain the momentum and see cycling to work as instrumental to this vision.”
Investors in Cycling launched in 2021, aiming to unite and recognise bike businesses across the UK which support the growth of cycling through advocacy. Companies including Tern and Madison have also pledged their support.
David Middlemiss, BA associate director, said: “The BA launched its first Local Bicycle Economy project in London in November 2021 with the publication of a report indicating an economic dividend of nearly £5 billion a year and the creation of 25,000 new green jobs in the bicycle sector in the capital.
“Working uniquely with the cycle industry, proving the economic value of cycling at this level is something the BA aims to do across the country in the months and years ahead.”
