Continental's one-off, limited edition box-set featuring the new Tyre Positioning System tyres along with two tubes, two rim tapes, two tyre levers and a GPAttack/GPForce jersey will be shipped to quick-on-the-draw dealers next month. 5000 box-sets are being produced worldwide, with the UK getting just a few hundred sets.

Conti’s TPS Xmas gift-set ships soon

The GP Attack & GP Force are front and rear clincher combination, available in early 2003. They feature Continental’s new Tyre Positioning System 9TPS). Designed to work together to provide the best racing performance, the Attack and Force said by Conti to be "the first serious front abd rear racing tyre set available on the market." They will be used in 2003 by teams such as Telekom, Saeco and Credit Agricole.

"Because road racing can involve riding in such a diverse range of conditions, top level road racers put the greatest of demands on their tyres," said Shelley Childs of Cambrian Tyres, UK agent for Conti cycle tyres.

"Sometimes it is better to have specific tyres on each wheel to satisfy these demands and to maximize tyre performance. That is why we have used different compounds in this new tyre set, along with different tyre construction and even different sizing, all to provide the best possible performance."

GP Attack is the front tyre, which features a 22mm tread width as against the usual 23mm to cut down on wind resistance, along with one puncture belt under the tread (this gives a total of four under tread layers) The tyre has a new sticky racing compound for "inspired cornering" and weighs 190g.

The GP Force is designed for rear wheel use. The 23mm section is said to be "wide enough to supply great grip, good puncture resistance and low rolling resistance yet narrow enough to keep weight low and ensure a responsive ride."

The Force has two puncture belts under the tread and has a harder, thicker rubber compound designed to give a longer tread life without sacrificing traction and cornering ability.

The tyres will be available to buy both as a set or as singles. The price for each tyre is £28.95 at retail, with the only colour option being black.

As an introductory offer, Continental is making available (via the usual suppliers) a box-set in time for Christmas which will feature the tyres along with two tubes, two rim tapes, two tyre levers and a GPAttack/GPForce special edition cycling jersey (available in Med/Large/XL). This will retail at £74.95.

Order via Madison, Jim Walker or Raleigh P&A but be aware that with only 5000 boxes available worldwide, demand will outstrip supply.
