Close-pass cops to give talk at bike industry event

Madison’s iceBike* will feature a raft of expert speakers, as featured earlier on BikeBiz, but there’s one that’s of especial interest to anyone who has followed the highly-influential "close-pass" initiative launched by the West Midlands Police Traffic Unit in 2016, and which has spread to other forces, too.

An officer from the traffic team will give a talk on Tuesday 20th February on how the force uses Cycliq’s front-and-rear LED lights and cameras. The Australian brand – kickstarted by crowdfunding – is distributed in the UK by Madison.

Since the close-pass operation began there have been more than 350 prosecutions for close passes of cyclists by motorists, and encouragingly there been a 20 percent reduction in cyclists killed or seriously injured.

Many of the police forces which stage close pass operations use Cycliq cameras.
