There have so far been 295 entries in the Taiwan-organised International Bicycle Design Competition, from bike designers representing 45 countries. China is leading the pack, and Taiwan, with 45 entries, is running a close second. The UK, with 12 entries submitted so far, is outpacing the Netherlands, which has a measley five entries.

This is the eighth annual running of the event. The winner walks off with £9000 ($14 500).

The International Bicycle Design Competition is organised by the Taiwan Bicycle Industry Research and Development Center (TBIRDC).

All entries need to register by July 31st, with online submission of design pix and plans by August 15th.

Twenty-four finalists will be selected by September 15th.

The winners (bikes this time, not scooters, please) will be announced on March 10th, 2004, the first day of the Taipei International Cycle Show.
