Children’s bike brand Black Mountain launched in UK

A new children’s bicycle company has launched in the UK. Black Mountain has designed a range of high-quality bicycles designed to grow and change with the child.

The idea for Black Mountain came about back in 2010 when engineer and Black Mountain founder Andy Lloyd wanted to get his young children outside and onto bikes as soon as he possibly could.

He wanted to instil in them his own passion for cycling, but he soon became frustrated with the quality of the bikes his children were riding, and to make things worse, they soon grew out of them. With a background in motorsport engineering, Lloyd set himself the goal of designing a bike that was strong, safe and lightweight, but most importantly, a bike that grew with his children.

Eight years down the line, ‘EPOK’and its core technologies UP:SCALE, IN:GEAR, GO:LOW and MY:SIZEhave been honed and packaged together to produce what Black Mountain believes are, “The world’s most advanced kids’ bikes.”

Black Mountain’s first two models, the PINTO – approx. age range three to five years, replacing both a traditional 12” and a 14” bike) and SKØG – five to eight years, replacing a traditional 14” and 16” bike – can be set up in either Balance, Small Pedal or Large Pedal mode, which means that the bike’s life is extended.

The brand also utilises custom belt drives across the range, which it claims are “600 per cent lighter than a traditional chain, low maintenance and oil-free.”
